As it is with most wars, a loser would be decided after a fierce conflict. Their cities were cast down into flaming rubble, and their nobles and their supporters fled into the mountains.

The samurai almost seemed disappointed. Suddenly, three ashigaru fell to the ground.

「果然从一开始就打算这样解决吧，真是恶劣的家伙。」

"You planned to do this all along, didn't you? You horrible knave."

身后的女子这样小声的吐槽着。

The girl grumbled softly from the rear.

In the nameless mountain shrine, the black-haired princess sat still, her face flickering between light and shadow in the face of a flame.

「不是，为什么要说不是。」

"What do you mean 'that's not it'?"

条件反射一般的回答。

Came the reply, almost as a conditioned reflex.

「我说啊，笨蛋武士，关于带来毁灭的公主，你就没有一点评价吗？」

"What I mean, you dumb samurai, is: don't you have any thoughts concerning me, the princess who brings destruction?"

「要说评价的话，听上去还挺有个性的。」

"Thoughts? Well, I think you're quite the character, for one."

「不是说这种评价。」美奈姬的话语有些无奈，「我是说对于救了我这件事……」

"I don't mean 'thoughts' in that sense." Princess Mina sounded quite exasperated now. "I mean with regards to saving me."

「不，准确来说并不存在我救了你这件事。」

"Strictly speaking, I didn't save you."

武士纠正道。

The samurai corrected.

「当时的情况是身为公主的你命令我带你出来，所以从义理上来说，是你救了自己。」

"At that time, you ordered me to take you away in your capacity as princess. In that sense, you saved yourself."

「武士会在意的点是这个吗？」

"Oh, is that how you see it?"

意料之中的吐槽。

An expected reply.

其实只是在逃避责任罢了，武士这样想。

Well, the samurai thought, it had been worth a shot trying to dodge responsibility.

「所谓带来毁灭的公主，说到底不过是战争的借口罢了。」

The samurai's lackadaisical tone shifted.

The barren fields stretched out into the horizon around a large sand dune where the two samurai faced each other.

其中一位是我们故事的主角，这里为了区分暂且称之为青色武士。

One of them is our protagonist, and shall be named the green samurai to distinguish him from his compatriot.

另一位是本卷初次登场的家伙，就叫做苍色武士好了。

The other is a new arrival to the story. We shall name him the pale samurai.

如果是剑戟片的话，这里应该摆出中段的架势了，但两人似乎并没有要一决雌雄的想法，只是单纯的相对站立罢了。

If this were a swashbuckler's tale, then they would have already taken up battle stances. But the two were not here to have a decisive match. They were just facing each other.

「从地狱中回来了吗。」

"Came back from hell, did you?"

不知道过去了多久，苍色的武士终于忍不住说道。

The pale samurai said, the weight of time unknowable lying between them.

「真是令人怀念啊。」

"Nostalgic, isn't it?"

青色的武士好像很开心的样子。

The green samurai seemed quite happy.

「我可不会怀念那种东西。」

"I don't get nostalgic over such things."

苍色武士不客气的打断。

The pale samurai interrupted rudely.

青色的武士闭上了眼睛，似乎坠入了过去的深渊。

The green samurai closed their eyes, as if sinking into the abyss of the past.

「只要打倒魔王一切就结束了，那时的我们还这样天真的以为，结果那不过是噩梦的开始罢了。

"'This will all end as long as we defeat the evil overlords.' That's what we believed then. Naive fools that we were — that was just the beginning of the nightmare."

十三名武士同心协力打倒了盗国的奈苦罗大名。

"The thirteen samurai banded together to defeat the Nakura Daimyo who had been destroying this nation."

然而没有大名的浓神国并没有迎来新生，土地中的生命力仍在不断地散失。

"But Kogami did not revive with the Daimyo gone, and the life-force of the land continued to bleed away."

不仅如此，失去支配者的国家，反而成为了邻国肆意掠夺的乐土。

"Not only that — Kogami, now bereft of its ruler, became a paradise for those who would plunder it."

打倒魔王的勇士们，终于也无法守护国土。

"The heroes who had defeated the wicked overlord could not protect it in the end either."

Princess Mina said.

「说了无数次了，根本就不存在拯救世界这回事。虽然有不知道多少个像我这样的白痴尝试过多少次，但说到底这个世界本来就是注定要毁灭的。」

"I've told you this many times before. There's no such thing as 'saving this world.' Now, this hasn't stopped idiots like me from trying, of course. But this world... it's doomed."

「我不管，我是公主，公主生来不就是要拯救世界的吗？」

"I don't care. I'm a princess. Aren't princesses born to save the world?"

「不，从来没听过这种设定，而且据我所知你是毁灭世界的公主」

"No, I've never heard of any story that goes like that. And last I heard, you were the princess who brings destruction."

「不是有什么人说过这种话，所谓毁灭，本来就是新生。」

"Last I heard, someone said that this 'destruction' is actually the birth of new life."

「虽然不知道你是从哪里听来的，但这种设定实在过于老套了。如果有人写出这种故事，还是赶紧扔进常夜国为好。」

"Well, I don't where you heard that one, but such beliefs are old hat by now. If you wrote this drivel nowadays, people would chuck it into the nation of Tokoyo, and that would be for the best."

空之塔顶，武士与公主在进行着毫无意义、旁若无人的对话。

At the top of the Sky Tower, the samurai and princess argued in futility, as if no one was watching.

虽然这样说，但其实在场的还有好几位阴阳师打扮的人。

Well, I say that, but in fact there were quite a few other folk about dressed in the garb of onmyouji.

「就像你们所知道的，奈苦罗之术最初的用途是为了将正在逐渐走向衰亡的世界中的生命力保存起来。」

"So, uh, as you all know, Nakura's Hex was originally created to preserve the vitality of a world that was slowly declining."

似乎是忍受不了这样的对话了，像是急于推进剧情发展的NPC，在场最年长的阴阳师终于开口说道。

As if unable to stand the conversation — and also to push the plot forward in their role as an NPC — the oldest onmyouji finally spoke.

「而能运用这些被保存起来的生命力的便是……」

"And that which can utilize this stored vitality..."

「所以你能不能把这种想法去掉啊。」

"So, could you get these thoughts out of your head?"

武士似乎根本没有听到一样，完全没有理会长者的话。

The samurai didn't seem to have heard the wizened onmyouji at all.

这样的闹剧究竟什么时候才能完结呢？

How long was this farce going to continue?

世界的真相终于揭晓，就像是彻底恶意的讽刺。分开的二人，仍然无法逃离命运的缠绕。

The Sky Tower's plans were probably complete by now, and vitality remaining in the world had all been stored up.

虽然不知道有没有创造出新的世界，但这个世界确实是毁灭了。

There was no knowing if a new world had been created, but this one was most certainly done for.
